New Hazard Classes

Commission Delegated  Regulation (EU) 2023/707 of 19 December 2022 amended Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 as regards hazard classes and criteria for the classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures. 

Briefly, there are new hazard classes to consider when classifying substances and mixtures, such as: ED (Endocrine Disruptor); PBT (Persistent, Bioacumulative and Toxic)/vPvP (very Persistent very Bioacumulative) and PMT (Persistent, Mobile and Toxic)/vPvM (very Persistent very Mobile).

Compliance due dates:

  • For new substances on the market, companies will have to comply with the new rules from May 1, 2025, while, for substances already on the EU market, they will have until November 1, 2026.
  • For new mixtures, the new CLP hazard classes will apply from May 1, 2026, while for existing mixtures, companies will have until May 1, 2028, to update classification and labeling.
